Classes and Workshops

Classes and workshops can be tailored to all levels of ability and musical/cultural understanding. We generally work together, provide the equipment and can cater for groups of up to 50 with drums & percussion, smaller groups with balafons & gongos.

Prices vary depending on location, duration, numbers and so on. Dance classes & workshops can either be arranged separately or a drum/dance session booked. A more cultural ‘show & tell’ style workshop can also be arranged with traditional African artefacts like cooking equipment, reed brushes and so on with storytelling if required.

Typically we charge £100 for a local workshop of up to an hour in either drumming or dance, the same for workshops further afield, plus travel expenses. We will negotiate rates for workshops incorporating both drum & dance or general ‘African music sessions. We have only worked with the over 5’s so far and mostly with the physically- able but we are open to anything.

Master classes for advanced players can also be arranged with Wurrie on drums or balafon. Day rates can be negotiated as can some reduced rates for charity gigs. Either ring 01273 624174 to discuss your needs and prices or e-mail us.

We are also part of WozaNawe, an African arts umbrella group based in the Eastbourne area, and so for organisations who want a more mixed media experience than we can provide workshops can be arranged with us & other members of this group.

Performance

We are available for performances using a variety of West African instruments as a duo or can play in a more troubadour style at dinners or parties. Wurrie can work with any style of music & so is available as a session musician on djembe, bass drums, balafon, gongo & bolong (or any combination of these). He is also available for dance work. Rates vary depending on the usual combination of factors so ring or e-mail for details.
